PGA OF AMERICA
Project
Summary
Location:
Frisco, Texas
Background:
PGA of America embarked on a journey to build their own “field of dreams” and create a “golf mecca” that would include a five-star resort, state of the art headquarters, golfing facilities, and two championship competition golf courses.
Problem:
Due to annual severe flash flooding, Hole 13 needed a solution that could prevent the Panther Creek high velocity waters from eroding the embankment, while maintaining the natural beauty and topography that was required for the golf course design.
Solution:
“The Gripper System” was chosen by the course designers to create their signature Hole 13 because of its ability to mimic both the embankment and cliff topography, while still protecting it from the damaging high water events that occur on an annual basis.
Scope:
Hole 13’s astonishing structure had a linear length of approximately 550 feet, with a height reaching up to 30 feet at its highest point. A little over 20,000 units were used to complete the spectacular design for this signature hole.
Impact:
The Panther Creek embankment and ravine are now protected from the high velocity water flows. The Indigenous plant species that were planted throughout the structure, have thrived and allowed mother nature’s beauty and genius to perfectly blend into the course design.
Results:
Hole 13 is a spectacular example of the "Gripper System's" ability to maximize the natural beauty and topography of a project area, while creating a stunning visual that both protects and enhances the striking attributes intended by the course designers.
